What is labiaplasty?
It can be uncomfortable to talk about, but more and more women are having surgery to change their labia, or vaginal lips. Whether you’re bothered by pain during exercise or sex, showing through clothing, or for aesthetic reasons, labiaplasty can safely reduce the size of your labia majora (the larger external lips) or minora (the smaller external lips closer to your vagina).
Usually, the goal of a labiaplasty is to reduce the inner labia so that they “hide” within the outer labia and aren’t visible when you’re standing. Surgery to reduce the size of the labia majora (the larger external lips) is called a majoraplasty.
Also known as: Labia augmentation
Is a labiaplasty right for me?
Having a labiaplasty is an extremely personal decision—one that some women start thinking about during puberty, when the inner labia and the clitoral hood get larger.
Dr. Adam Oppenheimer, an Orlando, Florida-based plastic surgeon, says that while there’s no “normal” labia size and shape, “large inner labia are a source of physical and emotional distress to some women. They can protrude from the vagina and can pinch or pull with clothing and exercise. Hygiene can be an issue, and intercourse can become painful.
How much does a labiaplasty cost?
The average cost of a labiaplasty is about $4,000 in US
In Europe 2000 GBP

Will insurance cover a labiaplasty?
Most insurance companies will not cover a labiaplasty. “Medical insurance covers the treatment of labial and vulvar diseases,”
What is labiaplasty recovery like?
After labiaplasty, plan for an initial recovery period of three to five days.
“Following labiaplasty or clitoral hoodectomy, I recommend two to three days of bed rest and staying off your feet to reduce swelling,” “You may return to work after four to five days. However, avoid vigorous exercise for three to four weeks, and no sexual activity for four to six weeks.”
What are the risks of labiaplasty?
In general, doctors regard labiaplasty as very safe, but there are always some risks. “As with any surgery there are always possible risks and potential complications,” “Specific complications to the labiaplasty procedure include asymmetry, pigmentation, and sensory changes."
Will results be the same using the wedge vs. trim method?
Two techniques are commonly used in labiaplasty: the wedge method and the trim method. The “trim” method creates one continuous incision along the edge of the labia. The “wedge” method produces a shorter scar, which goes across the labia rather than along the edge, and tightens the entire length of the labia minora (the inner vaginal lips). It is also a more complex procedure.
“Not all patients are candidates for both operations,” “In general, the wedge technique preserves a more 'rugated' or 'rough' appearance, while the trim method tends to produce a more smooth appearance.”
Your surgeon, anatomy, and desired results all impact the method chosen.
Should I wait until I’m done having kids?
Doctors say there’s no medical reason to wait since labiaplasty has no effect on childbirth. However, some doctors suggest waiting if you want to avoid the risk of needing a second procedure done.
What other procedures are often combined with labiaplasty?
Clitoral hood reduction (also called a hoodectomy) is sometimes combined with labiaplasty. It’s a surgical procedure to reduce the skin around the clitoris, done for aesthetic reasons or to improve sexual pleasure. When it’s done correctly, there’s no visible scarring and no nerve damage.
Liposuction & own fat lipo-filling can be combined
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure to tighten the vaginal canal. It’s done to repair damage to the vaginal wall, improve sexual intercourse, or treat incontinence. Vaginoplasty is often done in combination with other procedures, as part of a vaginal rejuvenation.
Vaginal Rejuvenation
These are the procedures most frequently carried out by our Cosmetic Surgeons & Gynaecological team.
Dr Goya is proud to be the first physician to offer Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, also known as vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening, to women in Belgium and surrounding countries. Vaginal Rejuvenation is the hallmark procedure in the newly established field of cosmetogynecology. This one to two hour surgical procedure treats vaginal relaxation, a common condition associated with childbirth and aging. Vaginal rejuvenation is performed in our AACS accredited, on site surgical suite.
As we age, our bodies go through a transformation. For many women, the ageing process and childbirth take a toll on the vagina, which stretches and loses muscle tone over time. This natural occurrence can lead to reduced sexual satisfaction (for both partners), embarrassment and a loss of self-esteem that can blind-side even the most confident of women.
Regain a Tight Vagina and Renewed Sexual Confidence
Along with feeling embarrassed, many women don’t realize a surgical solution – vaginal rejuvenation in Belgium – is available to help women regain vaginal tightness, sexual pleasure and a more youthful looking vagina.
“Loss of vaginal tightness with decreased sexual gratification is incredibly common, especially for women who have had difficult or multiple childbirths. It’s a condition any woman should feel at ease discussing with her doctor, because there are options and effective medical treatment is available,” says Dr.Goya.
At our state-of-the-art medical facility, women are catered to in a discreet and elegant atmosphere, where they feel comfortable speaking freely.
What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation surgery, also known as vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening, is an elective surgical procedure performed under general anaesthesia. Vaginal rejuvenation surgery is not an aesthetic procedure – it is a functional procedure involving the tightening of the inner and outer muscles and structures of the vagina enhancing vaginal muscle tone, strength and control.
According to Dr.Goya, “The primary goal of vaginal rejuvenation surgery is to enhance sexual gratification for the patient. This is achieved by reducing the internal and external diameter of the vagina and tightening the internal muscles to a patient’s specifications, thereby increasing friction experienced during intercourse.”
Experienced vaginal rejuvenation doctors like Dr.Goya also pay special attention to the appearance of the vaginal area to create a more youthful look.
Some women also elect to combine their vaginal rejuvenation with other aesthetic vaginal surgeries, such as labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction and hymenoplasty.
Non-Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation vs. Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation
Patients often ask Dr.Goya what the difference is between non-laser vaginal rejuvenation and laser vaginal rejuvenation procedures. For Dr the option she recommends is based on the individual patient’s needs. Both laser and non-laser procedures are available at the Women’s Wellness Institute in Belgium.
As Dr.Goya explains, “The difference between non-laser and laser vaginal rejuvenation is that non-laser vaginal rejuvenation surgery is the surgical instrument utilised during the case. A Diode 980 laser is an option, as are non-laser options such as an electric scalpel (Bovie) or radiofrequency (RF) technique (Ellman). Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery is the best option for women experiencing significant vaginal relaxation and/or pelvic organ prolapse.”
