Why Choose Breast Augmentation?

Also known as a “boob job,” this procedure can:

  • Increase breast size

  • Improve symmetry

  • Restore volume after weight loss or childbirth

  • Be combined with a breast lift for enhanced results

You may choose silicone or saline implants, or opt for a fat transfer using your own body fat for a more natural enhancement.

Is It Right for You?

You may be a suitable candidate if:

  • You’re close to your ideal body weight

  • You’re in good physical and mental health

  • You’re a non-smoker (or can pause smoking pre- and post-op)

  • You’re looking for safe, long-lasting results

The Procedure

This 60-minute surgery is performed under general anaesthesia by our certified specialists. Depending on your consultation plan, the surgeon will place implants or conduct a fat transfer after harvesting fat through liposuction.

You'll return home the same day in your post-surgical bra, with full recovery instructions.

Recovery Overview

  • Days 1–5: Rest and minimal movement

  • Day 5 onward: Resume office work

  • Weeks 4–6: Resume full physical activity

Dr. Goya, our lead consultant, emphasizes avoiding strenuous activity—including sex—during the first 7–10 days to reduce the risk of post-operative complications such as hematomas.

Post-Op Scar Care

Dr. Choy, surgical mentor at Lifecycle Aesthetics™, advises using silicone gel or scar tape once wounds have closed:

"Apply diligently for 6–9 months to significantly minimize scarring and optimise healing."

What is breast augmentation?

There are a lot of reasons you might want to change the shape or size of your breasts. Breast augmentation, commonly known as a boob job, can enhance a naturally small bust, make your breasts more symmetrical, or even reduce your cup size while reshaping your breasts. It can also be combined with a breast lift if weight loss, pregnancy, ageing, or genetics have caused your breasts to sag or droop.

Breast augmentation surgery is typically performed using saline or silicone breast implants, though not always. If you don’t like the idea of implants or aren’t looking for a dramatic increase  in size, a fat transfer breast augmentation might give you the results you want.

Also known as: Boob Job, Breast Implants, Breast Aug

Is a breast augmentation right for me?

A breast augmentation may be a good choice if:

  • You're close to your ideal weight
Dramatic weight changes can affect the size and shape of your breasts.

  • You're a non-smoker (or willing to quit before surgery)
Surgery and recovery are riskier if you’re a regular smoker. If you smoke, you should plan to stop smoking for about a month before and after your surgery.

  • You're generally in good health
The healthier you are, the easier your recovery will be.

How long does a breast augmentation take?

Breast augmentation surgery, casually known as a boob job, typically takes about one hour. General anaesthesia is most common, so you’ll be asleep during the procedure.

Once you’re prepped for surgery, your provider and the medical team will follow the surgical plan you agreed upon, either placing implants or using liposuction to remove fat from elsewhere on your body before transferring it to your breasts. After the procedure is over, you’ll be taken to a recovery area for a short period of observation. You should be able to go home in your dressings and surgical bra the same day.

How long does breast augmentation recovery take?

Typically, recovery from breast augmentation surgery takes one to two weeks, though swelling can last several months.

After three to five days, you can head back to work if you have an office job, but avoid rigorous exercise or heavy lifting for four to six weeks as you heal.

Dr. Goya, a plastic surgeon specialising in breast augmentation in Europe, my patients that it's extremely important to refrain from doing anything that will raise their blood pressure (including having sex) in the first 7 to 10 days, as there is still risk of hematoma during that time."

Dr. Choy also recommends starting silicone scar therapy "as soon as all your surgical scars are fully healed with no issues. "I always advise a lot of diligence, patience and consistency in the application of silicone therapy (whether it's silicone scar gel or tape) for at least 6 to 9 months in order to maximize and optimize its treatment efficacy."

When will I see final results?

After your breast augmentation, your breasts will begin to “drop and fluff” as the skin stretches and muscles relax, moving the implants into a more natural position.

“It’ll be about six weeks before they [breast implants] even begin to settle down, but they’ll be close to 80% settled at three months,” Watching their progress is like watching your hair grow."

"You don’t see a difference in your hair growth daily, but all of a sudden you need a haircut," he continues. "Be patient after surgery. Give yourself a few months before making a judgment about your surgical results."

When can I purchase new bras after a boob job?

You're probably eager to buy new, cute bras, but you'll need to wait a bit.

“Early swelling and bruising after breast augmentation starts to get better after one to two weeks,” There will still be some breast swelling at six weeks, but that is a good time to start measuring yourself for new bras. Most of the breast swelling will be gone by three to six months.”

How long will my breast implants last?

Some breast implants used to need replacement every 10 years, but doctors say that’s no longer true. In fact, breast implants made over the last 20 years or come with a lifetime warranty.

That said, it's still possible that your implants would need to be removed or replaced. They could rupture or harden, your breasts could sag, or you might want a new look.

But if you're happy with your implants and not experiencing problems, your plastic surgeon probably won't recommend replacement.

What are the risks or potential side effects of breast augmentation surgery?

Any major surgery has a chance of bleeding, infection, pain, and anaesthesia issues; but depending on what kind of augmentation you’re having, there might be additional risks.

With implants, there’s a slight chance of a cancer called breast-implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma, or BIA-ALCL. According to an FDA statement in 2017, the risk is highest with implants that have a textured surface, so be sure to discuss the different implant types with your surgeon.

There’s also the possibility that the thin membrane that forms around the implants in your body (called a “capsule”) can begin to harden; this side effect, called capsular contracture, will make your breasts feel sore and stiff. To prevent it, your doctor may advise you about massage techniques.

If your surgery involves breast fat transfer, you’ll have two surgeries: liposuction, which can potentially cause your skin to become numb, discoloured, rippled, or loose; and fat transfer, which can result in lumps where fat was removed or injected (though choosing an experienced surgeon can reduce that risk). A breast augmentation with fat transfer can also cause micro-calcifications—tiny calcium deposits in your breasts that appear when fat cells have died but aren’t absorbed back into your body. These are fairly common, and often (but not always) benign.

Finally, either kind of breast augmentation comes with the possibility that you’ll be unsatisfied with the size or shape of your breasts, which will require additional surgery to change: either an implant revision or additional fat transfer.

Should I wait to have a breast augmentation if I want children?

You don’t need to wait to get a breast augmentation if you want children in the future, but most plastic surgeons recommend waiting because your breasts typically change after pregnancy.

“It is not necessary that you wait on having children before having a breast augmentation, so long as you understand that your breasts will likely change size and shape, and more surgery may need to be performed at some point in the future after you have your children,

“It is not necessary that you wait on having children before having a breast augmentation, so long as you understand that your breasts will likely change size and shape, and more surgery may need to be performed at some point in the future after you have your children,”

Can pills or creams increase my breast size?

Unfortunately, pills and creams are typically a waste of money.

“If it sounds too good to be true it almost certainly is, “There is nothing on the market that will specifically target your breasts to make them bigger without affecting other parts of your body.”

“Many of these so-called wonder drugs are also unregulated and can be dangerous,” he continues. “Surgery is the only option that reliably and safely works. Don't waste your money and safety on empty promises!”

Recovery time for a breast augmentation averages from one to two weeks.

“Breast augmentation recovery goes through some predictable stages,” “Initially, the breasts are tight, swollen, and may be painful.”

“Over the next six weeks, there is a significant amount of settling,”

“By three months, I would say 90% of the swelling has resolved, and the breasts are soft and look more natural.”

Returning to work

Most women can return to work about a week after a breast augmentation, but it will depend on your specific job. Non-physical jobs that don’t require much arm movement require less time off than more physical jobs.

Working out

It can be difficult to refrain from your normal exercise routine, but most providers recommended waiting at least four to six weeks before resuming physical activity. Preventing blood pressure from rising will help with swelling and reduce the risk of a hematoma or capsular contracture.

Massage

Some providers will recommend daily massages to help prevent the risk of capsular contracture.

“Massaging your breast implants consists of just moving that implant around inside so that the capsule that eventually forms is slightly larger than your implant, and so the breasts can feel soft and natural,” “You should gently move the implants up, down, and side to side using your hands to apply gentle pressure around the breasts.”

Hypersensitivity

During breast augmentation recovery, it’s common to experience nipple hypersensitivity. Over the following weeks to months, the nerve to the nipple returns to normal, and nipple sensation returns to normal as well.

Scars

It can take up to a year for scars to fully mature, depending on age, skin type, and post-op scar care. Avoiding direct sunlight, using sunscreen, and silicone gel creams are ways to speed up the process.

Surgical bras

The use of a surgical bra will depend on your provider’s preferences and your specific needs.

“There is no consensus on the use of surgical bras after a breast augmentation,” “Some surgeons place every woman in a surgical bra, while others never use them. While every surgeon has reasons to believe that their choice is the right one, there has never been a definitive study that demonstrates if a bra is beneficial.”

“At our centre my patients in a light sport-bra after the surgery to support the breasts,” he continues. “It seems to me that gentle support of the breasts would be more comfortable in the early recovery phase.”

Sex after surgery

It is safe for most women to resume sexual activity after two weeks. However, it is important to be careful and avoid movements that could dislodge the implant for at least six weeks.

“no bouncing, jiggling, pushing, or pulling for four weeks, regardless of the activity.”

Swelling

“During the second and third weeks after surgery most of the swelling subsides and the breasts begin to take their shape,” “During this period the implants begin to drop, the tissues expand, and the breasts become rounder. Please note that a small amount residual swelling may still be present six to eight weeks after surgery.”

How long it lasts

“It is impossible to tell someone exactly how long their implants may last,” . “It is possible that it could be for a lifetime.”

“However, we tell our patients that they should not have breast implants placed unless they are open to having another surgery some time in their lifespan,” he continues. “Patients do need to understand that breast implants can fail, i.e., a saline implant can deflate and a silicone implant can rupture.”

The Consultation Process

We listen to your concerns and goals regarding breast augmentation and enlargement surgery. Throughout the process, multiple factors will be considered to determine the best surgical procedure for you and breast implant size. The risks and benefits of the various types of procedures and implants will be discussed as well to aid you in making the most informed decision possible.

What to Expect After Breast augmentation and enlargement Surgery

You will see surgeon for a follow up appointment 1-2 days after the breast augmentation surgery. The surgical bra will be removed at that time and further instructions will be given. You will be permitted to shower after this visit.

Some discolouration and swelling will occur initially, but this will disappear quickly. Most residual swelling will resolve within a month

Long Term breast augmentation Results

Except in the event of implant deflation requiring surgical replacement with a new implant, the results of your breast augmentation surgery will be long-lasting. However, gravity and the effects of ageing will continue to affect the breasts and may alter their size, shape, and position. If, after a period of years, you become dissatisfied with the appearance of your breasts, you may choose to undergo a breast lift to restore their more youthful contour.

Some discolouration and swelling will occur initially, but this will disappear quickly. Most residual swelling will resolve within a month

Post-op Activity Restrictions

Our patients typically return to their normal daily activities the day after breast augmentation surgery. However, you will need to restrict any strenuous activity for a week and there will be no lifting anything over 5-10 lbs for the first 2 weeks. Activities and exercise that involve the chest muscles, running, and jumping is restricted for 4-6 weeks.

Risks

During the consultation process you will have the opportunity to discuss the potential risks of breast augmentation surgery, in addition you will be given material for review at

home that will further detail these issues.

Potential complications that may be discussed with you include reactions to anaesthesia, bleeding and infection. Although rare, an infection that does not subside with appropriate treatment may require temporary removal of the implant. Changes in nipple or breast sensation are uncommon and when they occur are usually temporary.

When a breast augmentation implant is inserted, a scar capsule forms around it as part of the natural healing process. The capsule may sometimes tighten and compress the implant, causing the breast to feel firmer than normal. Capsular contracture can occur to varying degrees. If it is severe, it can cause discomfort or changes in the breast’s appearance. In such cases, more surgery may be needed to modify or remove the scar tissue, or perhaps remove or replace the implant. We do everything possible to minimize the incidence of this particular problem.

Breast augmentation implants are not lifetime devices and cannot be expected to last forever. If a saline-filled implant breaks, the salt water content is harmlessly absorbed. A definite change in the size of the breast is clearly noticed. Rupture can occur as a result of trauma to the chest, but more commonly it occurs spontaneously with no apparent cause. Surgery will be required to replace the implant, if desired.

Mammo-graphic examinations are performed regularly on women with breast implants. There are several additional views that are required, however most breast imaging centres today are quite familiar with dealing with patients with implants.
